this show has set the britanian empire to be the U.S. weird because if they relate to themselves as japan why not say that the americans took over japan why use britanian? also, america would completely and utterly destroy japan if we were to fight again i think that the japs just hold a grudge because of WWII
Actually, it's been stated that the britanian homeland is the americas. For all we know, it could've been canada (lol, yeah right) or mexico, or brazil (at least the name is close, right?) or chile (mmmm... chile =D)
just to let everybody know this is my second runthrough of the series and let me say it is by far the most incredible anime i have ever watched..... peace out
Ok...I have several issues to discuss. Number one, to all those saying 'america this and that' you're an idiot. Plain and simple. The story behind this, if you'd bothered to look it up and not just glance at a map, is that during the times of Julius Caeser, i.e., 44 B.C. or so, during his conquest of Gaul, a super king of sorts rose up and repelled Julius Caesar from taking Britain. Fast forward a few thousand years not much is different except...that Great Britain did not stop Napolean who went on to form the E.U. But more so, they quelled the American Revolution, kept the powers central to the throne that King John lost, and eventually lost Britain to Napolean's E.U. So you have Britannia as they are now named, in the year 2010 with its 98th emperor, Charles, who commands an empire in the America's. Notice that the year 2010 in this is the same as roughly our 1950's. Their calendar is marked by the fight between the 'super king' and Julius Caesar, not Jesus Christ. The world's economy revolves around sakuradite, which is the anime's version of uranium. Japan holds 70% of the worlds reserves, and thus, since Britannia is the world's only super power and needs a lot of it, Charles orchestrates the conquest of Japan, aptly named Area 11. In this, the eleventh prince and 17th in line for the throne Lelouch Vi Britannia and his sister Nunnally Vi Britannia are exiled from Britannia after their mother is murdered and Lelouch confronted his father about it in court, embarrassing him. Under a different name, Lelouch Lamperouge, Lelouch despises the empire, but contents himself to meloncholy because he does not have the ability do anything about it.
THE SECOND ISSUE I HAVE!...is the sentence spoken earlier "america would completely and utterly destroy japan if we were to fight again i think that the japs just hold a grudge because of WWII". Yes, some Japanese are angry because of World War II. But for the most part they are relics of an age past and no longer represent the Japanese of today. The very term 'Japs' is associated with World War II, and is little more than a less than conceiled derogatory name. The term is Japanese, not 'Japs'. Just like the term in Canadian...not 'Cans'. or 'Spans' for the Spanish. Learn to open your eyes a little eh?
The only comment I liked was 'just to let everybody know this is my second runthrough of the series and let me say it is by far the most incredible anime i have ever watched..... peace out'. At least someone can enjoy the series of the fantastic anime which includes tragedy, romance, heart break, giant robots...who the hell doesn't love giant robots when they watch an anime? Thats practically what the whole thing revolves around, giant robots and Damocles, Ragnorak, et cetera, et cetera.
Out of interest, how is Jap a derogatory term? I'm not bothered by being called a Brit. ¬¬ It only becomes rude if you phrase it in such a way that implies or states that being a Japanese or British person is bad. If one infers meaning that isn't there, that's their own oversensitivity; if it is directly implied by another, the person in question is merely ignorant and is probably curious about how an anus became a planet. Yes, they are that ignorant, and don't deserve your time.
ANYWAY! First time watching this!!! =D Looking goooood! ;]

It's not the US that's attacking. Britain has taken over all the brown areas on the map and has become Brittania.
